General Notes: Husband - William Whitman

He educated himself for the medical profession and practiced successfully;
"A self-educated physician of the olden time." [HVC 1890, 686]

An old settler of Venango County, PA, he saw the first white child buried in the old Franklin graveyard. He served in Captain Duffield’s company as a soldier in the war of 1812. Though a farmer for many years, in the latter part of his life he practiced medicine. He and his wife had fourteen children born to them, eight of whom were still living in 1879.
