He and his wife moved from Pennsylvania to Nebraska before 1860. While living in Nebraska, he enlisted in the 2nd Regiment of the Nebraska Volunteer Cavalry. He was later discharged for a disability and received a federal military pension. Later he moved to Kansas with others of his family and there he died.
