General Notes: Husband - A. W. Cowder

He was reared in Bradford township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, receiving his education in the Shiloh district school. He engaged in farming and lumbering in early manhood, and has always lived at the old home. In 1882 he purchased a portion of it, and came to own 251 acres, 125 of which were in a high state of cultivation. The land was adapted to general crops, and he made no specialties. He was president of the township school board and also held other offices, including that of township auditor, and was an influential worker in the Democratic organization.
