He was one of the first settlers of Redstone Township, Fayette County, coming to Pennsylvania from the Free City of Hanover, Germany. The family since early times have been outstanding in Fayette County life and affairs.

He came from Germany, and lived in Maryland, near where the battle of Antietam was fought, until the year 1771, when he removed with his family to western Pennsylvania, and settled on a farm in Redstone township, Fayette County.

The old Craft homestead was one mile east of Merrittstown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
