He passed from the public schools at the age of seventeen to the Emlenton (Pennsylvania) Business College, and after one year of study there matriculated in the pharmacy department of the Western University of Pennsylvania, where he studied during the following two years. During the two years succeeding his university course he was a drug clerk in Pittsburgh for J. H. Phillips, and then coming to Jamestown he bought out the Clark Drug Company on June 10, 1906, and thereafter was one of the city's leading druggists and business men. He was a member of the fraternal order of Woodmen of America and of the Presbyterian church, and in politics he affiliated with the Republican Party. [HMC 1909, 824]
