He was born on the family homestead, educated at the public schools of the township, and always followed farming.
He was elected justice of the peace of Richland township in 1881; he also held all the important offices of the township, and was president of the Bakerstown Mutual Fire Insurance company. He and his family were members of the U. P. Church of West Union.
