General Notes: Husband - Wilson Cross

He was educated in the public schools of his native place, and as a young man became associated with his father in the furnace business. In the year 1866 he opened a general merchandise store at Horse Creek, which he operated for a year and a half, at the expiration of which he removed to Kennerdell, Venango County, there maintaining his home and business headquarters until death called him. He was interested in the lumber business and for many years furnished railroad ties for the Allegheny Valley Railroad Company. Also, he started the first sand mill at Kennerdell. But most of Mr. Cross' attention was devoted to his great merchandise trade. A Democrat in politics, he was deeply and sincerely interested in community affairs but did not aspire to public office, although he was the popular incumbent of the position of postmaster of Kennerdell for a period of twenty-five years. He was a devout Presbyterian in his religious faith, and was a generous contributor to a number of charitable organizations. He was a member of the Knights of Honor and was likewise affiliated with the Knights and Ladies of Honor. [GPHAV, 938]
