For eighteen months afterward he was engaged as clerk in the register and recorder's office of Indiana County, at the end of that time resuming his studies, at the Kiskiminetas Springs School, Saltsburg. He then entered Washington and Jefferson College, which he left in his sophomore year, taking a position as traveling salesman for the Morrison-Ricker Glove Manufacturing Company, of Grinnell, Iowa.
