General Notes: Husband - Robert J. Douthitt

He enlisted in 1861, in Company D., 100th Regiment, P. V., serving four years less one month. This regiment belonged properly to the Army of the Potomac, but in 1863 it was detached and sent to the siege of Vicksburgh, remaining until the surrender, when it was transferred to the Army of the Cumberland, and finally returned to the Army of the Potomac, with which it remained until the close of the war. Mr. Douthitt participated in many hard-fought battles through Tennessee, Virginia and Maryland. He received a gun-shot wound in the head at Campbell's Station, near Knoxville, Tennessee; was held a prisoner for three months at Columbia, South Carolina; and was discharged with rank of second lieutenant at Harrisburg, July 24, 1865. On his return home he farmed in Chippewa township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, until 1871, when he bought a place of 130 acres, in this township.
He was township auditor, and served on the board several terms; was a member of Post 164, G. A. R., Beaver Falls; in politics he was a Democrat. He and his children were members of the Methodist Church, Mrs. Douthitt of the Presbyterian.
