On reaching a sufficient age, he entered the public schools of College township, but completed his education in Spring township, Centre County, Pennsylvania. He was reared to farm work, which he made his life occupation. He was an earnest supporter of the men and measures of the Republican party, and in religious faith was a Methodist.
