General Notes: Husband - "Irish" Samuel Culbertson

He was one of three Irish brothers, who settled in the Cumberland Valley in what is now Franklin County, Pennsylvania, at a very early period, certainly before 1743.

He served with the Pennsylvania regiment, in the French and Indian war, and was sergeant-major in Col. Hugh Mercer's battalion in 1758.

In 1730, three brothers, Alexander, Joseph and Samuel Culbertson, from near Ballymoyney, County Antrim, Ireland, emigrated to Pennsylvania and settled in Lancaster County. Long prior to the organization of Cumberland County, they located in what became Lurgan township, Franklin County, seven miles north of the present site of Chambersburg, and called their settlement "Culbertson's Row" after the home of their ancestors in the Province of Ulster, Ireland. His will was probated in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, Oct. 15, 1789.
