Brooke Co, WV

He was a large farmer and was engaged in the breed­ing and sale of fine sheep all his life. He was a Republican, and served one term in the West Vir­ginia Legislature; was in the Senate in 1861, at the time of the war, one term. He was also talked of for governor of his state at one time, but for some reason best known to himself he did not run, although his friends assured him he would win.
