General Notes: Husband - Eugene Reed

He and his wife immigrated to the United States in 1834 and were married in New York state soon after their arrival. They obtained land in Venango County, Pennsylvania, from the government, and after clearing this tract there farmed. He was an industrious hardworking man, ably seconded in all of his farm work by his wife, who was of more assistance in the fields than the average farmhand, and who, in spite of the ungentle nature of her life, lived to the age of ninety-four years. Both were devoted members of the Roman Catholic Church, and in the early days of their residence in Venango County walked twelve miles to attend services held according to the ritual of their faith, their absence from worship being a noteworthy occurrence.
