June 30, 1888, Obituary in the Oil City Derrick: "Death of an Old Pioneer ... Isaac Hoffman, better known as Grandfather Hoffman, died at his residence, 403 Central Ave., at 8:25 on Thursday, June 28, 1888. The deceased was born in Westmoreland County, May 10, 1789. He leaves a wife and 4 children, one son and 3 daughters. He was a consistent Christian and had a kind word for everybody. He has one brother living. His brother is the last of the family and the last of 10 children. His father settled with his family in the vicinity of Clintonville when there wasn't a stick of timber cut within a good distance around. The deceased and his brother have many times driven cattle from Clintonville to Brokenstraw Island when they would have to camp in the woods with no one for companions but the Indians and wolves. The family got all their provisions from Westmoreland and it took them weeks to go and come. The deceased was 90 years, 1 month, and 18 days old."
