General Notes: Husband - Samuel Work Woodward


He was raised on a farm and received his education in the common schools of Dunbar township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
He owned 280 acres of good land in Menallen township, and gave the most of his time to its cultivation and improvement. He and his wife were members of Laurel Hill Presbyterian church.

He attended school in Dunbar township, where his parents lived for several years. After leaving school he chose the business of farming and
stock growing. He owned one hundred and eighty acres of well improved land, which was more valued for the coal that underlay it, than for the surface.

His education was received and his early life spent in Menallen township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, then he was in Dunbar township for twenty-six years, nine years in Franklin, finally returning to Menallen township. He was a successful farmer and amassed a comfortable fortune from his farming operations and a vein of coal underlying his farm of one hundred acres. He was a Democrat in politics, and was a member of the Presbyterian church at Laurel Hill.
