General Notes: Husband - Ebenezer Henry Curtis

His early education was received in the public schools of Venango County, Pennsylvania, and he subsequently attended the Franklin and Rouseville high schools. At the conclusion of his studies he became a telegraph messenger boy, and afterwards a clerk. At the age of seventeen he became an oil pumper, which occupation he followed for many years. He began operating in 1884, and became very successful until he now operated nine wells on his own and adjoining farms. He had a farm in Salem township [Clarion County?] covering one hundred and fifty acres, and there he was also a breeder of registered Berkshire hogs, Guernsey cattle, and fine draft horses. He erected a fine barn and remodelled the dwelling house, building a summer house directly over a spring. Politically Mr. Curtis was a Democrat, and he attained considerable local prominence, being a school director and an influential member of the Lutheran church, as well as belonging to the Order of the Maccabees.
