Harry Montgomery
GROVE CITY - Harry L. Montgomery, 66, of Grove City RD 1, Lee Avenue, Broadacres, died at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday in the Oak Hill Unit of United Community Hospital. Death followed a six-month illness.
Mr. Montgomery was born in Springfield Township, Mercer County, on Oct. 19, 1914, to Francis M. and Effie Breese Montgomery. He was married to Margaret G. Daugherty on Aug. 27, 1935, and she survives.
Mr. Montgomery retired in 1978 from Cooper Energy Services, where he worked for more than 42 years as a supervisor.
He attended the Church of the Nazarene, and was a member of American Legion Post 220, VFW Post 519, the Grove City Elks Lodge, the Moose Lodge of Mercer, and the Cooper Bessemer Retirees. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Montgomery was also a former amateur boxer in Mercer County, with 52 amateur bouts. His record included 48 wins and four losses, with 37 wins by knockouts.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Wendell (Bonnie) Miller of Sharpsville and Mrs. Barbara Monks of Morristown, Tenn.; a son, Jack D. Montgomery of Anderson, S. C.; three sisters, Mrs. George (Alma) Arnold and Mrs. Joseph (Thelma) Summers, both of Cleveland, Ohio, and Mrs. James (Dorothy) Hack of Lancaster; Ohio; and two brothers, Robert E. Montgamery of York and Paul L. Montgomery of Greenville. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Shirley Ann Montgomery in 1937, and a sister, Margaret Scoller.
Funeral services will be held in the Cunningham Funeral Home, Inc., at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Charles A. Kohr, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, officiating.
Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
