He retired from the old family homestead in 1906 and located at Jamestown, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, where he made his home with his granddaughter, Carrie Pearl, who was his housekeeper and the comfort of his old age.
At the time of his death he was the oldest living native of Mercer County.
