He was a Methodist Episcopal minister and was stationed in Blairsville, Pennsylvania, in 1858, his labors being chiefly in Ohio. He became ill while stationed at Steubenville, and returned to Blairsville only to die.

He adopted his father's profession, receiving the degree of Doctor of Medicine. After practicing for a short time he entered the ministry of the Methodist Episcopal church, becoming a member of the Ohio conference. He is said by those who knew him to have been an able speaker, and at the time of his death was pastor of a church at Steubenville, Ohio.
