General Notes: Husband - Francis Marion Davis

He was about one year old when his parents moved to the farm in Union Township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, and was still a boy when they located on the home place in Shenango Township, where he grew to maturity. He attended the district schools about four months of each year and worked on the farm until he was seventeen years of age, when he learned the trade of a plasterer. He followed his trade for a period of twenty-seven years and became widely known throughout various parts of the county. He continued to reside on the home farm until 1905, when, on February 4, he and his brother, Dr. Charles Davis, purchased the business of the Wampum Hardware Company. He then moved to Wampum and took charge of the business, being assisted in the store by his daughter, Nancy. They carried a large stock of general hardware and explosives, their store being located on Railroad Street. They also had a large ware-room across the street from the store building, and another along the railroad tracks.

When he had finished his schooling he became a plasterer, and followed that trade until 1904, up to that year being a resident of Shenango Township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. He then moved into Wampum, and became a hardware merchant in that borough. The business was owned by Mr. Davis; his daughter, Mrs. Wilson; and his two sons, E. J. Davis, and C. S. Davis. He became one of the influential and prominent business men of Wampum. Early in his career identifying himself with the Democratic organization and from his youth enthusiastically active in community affairs, Mr. Davis soon became a member of the Shenango Township School Board, remained a member of it for many years, and served the remaining years of his tenure as school director concurrently with a membership on the Wampum Poor Board. In January, 1924, the people of the county elected him a county commissioner for a four-year term.
He belong to the Grange Club of Lawrence County. He and his family attended the First Methodist Church, in Wampum.
In addition, Mr. Davis was a director, second vice-president and secretary of the First National Bank of Wampum, of which he was one of the founders.

He was a farmer and fruit-dealer.
