He was born October 20, 1787, in Ireland. [HIC 1913, 681]

He received but a limited education at the subscription schools of the neighborhood. After marriage he and his wife made their home in West Bethlehem township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, for a time, and then moved to Buffalo township, where they remained until in their declining years they had to abandon farm labor, and make their final home with their son William. They were members of the Presbyterian Church; in politics Mr. Davis was originally a Whig and afterward, on the formation of the party, a stanch Republican.
