General Notes: Husband - Edward Spence


He was educated in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He became a farmer and merchant, and engaged in producing petroleum.
He was a Republican beginning from the inception of that party. He was in Kansas during the border troubles, and took an active part in making it a free state. When the Civil War broke out, being in West Virginia during the formation of the state, he received a commission as second lieutenant from Gov. Pierpont.
He filled the office of burgess for a number of years, and was justice of the peace for five years. In 1880 he was elected representative.
