In 1818, he and his first wife settled in the part of Mercer County, Pennsylvania, which later became part of Lawrence County. About 1858 they removed to New Lebanon Borough, Mercer County. He was treasurer of New Leba-non for a number of years, a devoted member of the Lutheran Church, and voted the Republican ticket.
