General Notes: Husband - Samuel Deniston

He was born at Greencastle, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and came to Pittsburgh when yet a young man. He became the owner of two hundred and thirty acres of land where North Homestead and Swissvale later stood. He conducted a hotel at Petersburg, later Addison, Somerset County, in an early day, and had teams hauling goods from Pittsburgh and Wheeling, West Virginia, to Baltimore, Maryland.

As a young man he moved to Pittsburgh, married, then went to Petersburgh, later Addison, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, where he conducted a tavern, or hotel, for some ten years. He also owned teams engaged in hauling merchandise from Pittsburgh and Wheeling to Baltimore, Maryland. Returning to Pittsburgh, he lived on a rented farm in what became the Squirrel Hill section of the town, a few years later purchasing river bottom land across the river from the site where Munhall, Pennsylvania, was later located. From time to time he added other bits of land, so that he had, at the time of his death, some two hundred and thirty valuable acres in the so-called Deniston Homestead.
The homestead was about eight miles from Pittsburgh and opposite the later site of the United States Steel Corporation mills at Homestead, Pennsylvania.
