General Notes: Husband - Abraham Newcomer

His birthplace was the old Newcomer homestead patented to Abraham Neukomer, October 14, 1797, and still owned in the family. He attended the public or subscription school at the old Garrett school house. He remained at home as his father's assistant in farm labor until the death of the latter in 1849, then bought a farm of one hundred and ten acres in Bullskin township, Fayette County. He cultivated that farm for seven years, then sold it and moved to the Joshua Strickler farm as a renter, remaining six years. The farm was then sold to Solomon Keister, who only wanted the coal, and continued Mr. Newcomer in his lease for twenty-six years more. Then after a thirty-two years residence on the one farm under two landlords, he moved to a farm in Upper Tyrone township, which he purchased about 1886. It was located three-quarters of a mile west of Owendale, and there he enjoyed a serene old age. He was a Whig until the formation of the Republican party, then embraced with ardor the principles of that organization, and was always its loyal supporter. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church.
