He was actively engaged in mercantile pursuits in Mercer, PA, for many years. His eyes began failing some twenty years before his death, which compelled him to retire. For fifteen years he was totally blind, which mis­fortune he bore with patience. He was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, and took a live interest in all public interests.
