He emigrated to America with his parents when ten years of age, and went to work in the furnaces in Lucinda Furnace, Pennsylvania, and later bought a farm in Washington town­ship, Clarion County, PA, which he cultivated until his death. He was a Republican in politics, and a member of the United Brethren church.
