He was a soldier in the Civil War, as one of the Burdan sharpshooters, Company A, Second Regiment, U. S. Army. He participated in many engagements including Bull Run, South Mountain, Antietam, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. He died from the effects of a wound in the ankle.
