General Notes: Husband - Abraham Lincoln

About the time he reached his majority, he treked with his parents and neighbors, the Hankses and Boones and numerous Pennsylvania German settlers from parts of Berks, Lancaster and York counties in that flood of southern migration between 1750 and 1775, that soon filled the upper counties of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia with as thick and characteristically Pennsylvania German a settlement as eastern Pennsylvania itself. The Lincolns were carried along in 1765 and for a while settled in Rockingham County, where Abraham married. Afterwards he followed Daniel Boone westward and moved with his family to Kentucky, where he was ambushed and killed in an Indian raid as his children looked on.

He carried on an extensive land transaction in Augusta County, Virginia, and later in Kentucky, where he was killed in the spring of 1784 by an Indian, while at work in his field. Thomas, his third son (President Lincoln's father), was with his father in the field at the time, and the Indian tried to capture him, but was killed by Mordecai, eldest brother of the boy.

General Notes: Wife - Bathsheba Herring

He married Mary Shipley, of North Carolina. [GPHFC, 41] Possibly he was married twice.
