General Notes: Husband - John Siggins

In June, 1793, he and his wife came to America, settling in Pennsylvania, successively near Philadelphia, at Carlisle, and finally in Centre County.

The first American ancestor of Pennsylvania Siggins Family, he was born in county Sligo, Ireland, and died, on a farm called "Spring Creek", two and one-half miles below "Old Centre Furnace", Centre County, Pennsylvania, of which he was a tenant, this farm was owned by Robert Whitehall. In 1793, he and his wife, with their children, had emigrated to America, settling first near Philadelphia, from there to Centre County. After his death his widow with her family removed to Youngsville, Warren County, Pennsylvania. "Soon after their marriage, both John and Sarah Siggins experienced religion through the instrumentality of the Methodist preaching and united with that church."

He [James Siggins], when a young man, came to America, possessing at that time ample means. He left Ireland about the time of the religious war and purchased a large amount of property in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. But he was too popular to remain wealthy and his numerous apparent friends proved traitors by asking Mr. Siggins to become security for them, which he did and lost heavily thereby. This seeming treachery on the part of friends whom he loved, most clearly not only caused him much financial distress, but preyed upon his mind and is supposed to have hastened his death, as he died in his prime; his remains lie buried in Westmoreland County.
