In 1812 he purchased a tract of land near where West Middlesex, Pennsylvania, was later located.

He had ten children and settled originally about eight miles northeast of New Castle, Pennsylvania, subsequently removing to the area near West Middlesex. He purchased the patent for 640 acres of land, being located in the donation lands.
