He was born on the farm where he always resided, receiving his literary education in the schools of Mt. Pleasant township. He followed agricultural pursuits on the home farm of 189 acres, his sister keeping house for him. He devoted considerable attention to stock raising, and was successful in all his business under­takings. He was a member of the U. P. Church at Venice, Washington County, and in politics voted the Republican ticket.
