General Notes: Husband - Jacob Shirey

Like his father he was engaged for many years in the freighting business, his chief route lying along the old Conestoga road, along which he hauled various kinds of goods over the mountains, from the eastern centers to Pittsburgh. From the year 1850, for a considerable period, however, he lived on a farm which his son John later owned, and there died, at the venerable age of eighty-eight years.
He was an officer in the Lutheran church, and for a number of years was a staunch Democrat in politics, but the events leading up to the Civil War caused him to join the Republican party which was then newly founded.
