He was a printer by trade. In 1841 he became a partner with Joseph Russel in the Westmoreland Republican and Farmers’ Chronicle, of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, in 1844 was sole editor and proprietor, and in 1861 sold out to Andrew Graham.
