NICKLEVILLE.
Nickleville, Feb. 16.
John Montgomery, aged 93 years, 10 months and 11 days, died at the home of his son, Edward, near here, at 3:30 p. m. on February 11. He was born near the present site of Grove City, Mercer county, March 30, 1824. On March 4, 1857, he was married to Sarah Jane Lusher, of Rockland, who died June 29, 1916. To this union nine children were born. Two of these, daughters, died in infancy. The following three daughters and four sons are yet living: Mrs. Mattie Alden, Erie; Mrs. Maud Dietrick, Lamartine; Mrs. Jessie McCool, who took care of her father; Harry, Prairie Depot, O.; Clayton, Taft, Cal.; Cash, Hill City, and Edward, near here. Also one sister, Mrs. Jane Donley, of Stoneboro. The Montgomerys have lived on their farm near Mong, Clarion county, for 41 years. Last fall Mr. Montgomery and his daughter, Mrs. McCool, went to the home of his son, Edward, and have since occupied rooms there because of the father's failing condition. He was a G. A. R. veteran, a member of Koch Post. For many years he had been a a member of the Evangelical church at Cross Roads. Mr. Montgomery was a good man. He was of a quiet, inoffensive dispostion. We never heard an evil word spoken of him, and believe he has gone to occupy the vacant place awaiting him in the upper mansions prepared by God for all who love Him. Funeral services, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Wygant, assisted by Rev. Galbraith, were held in the Rockland M. E. church February 14 at 11 a. m. Interment was in the family lot in Rockland cemetery.
Mrs. Mattie Alden and three daughters, of Erie; Mr. and Mrs. Cash Montgomery, of Hill City, and family; Mr. and Mrs. John Dietrick, of Salem, and Mrs. Jane Donley, of Stoneboro, were here to attend the Montgomery funeral.

Mrs. John Montgomery.
Sarah Jane Lusher, wife of John Montgomery, died at her home near Nickleville at 9 o'clock Thursday evening, June 29th. Mrs. Montgomery had been in ill health for a number of years and on April 1st she suffered a stroke of apoplexy, from which she was never able to leave her bed, and on the evening of June 29th she passed peacefully away, aged 82 years, four months and 17 days.
Although her death was expected, it came as a sad blow to the family, who administered to her with loving care through her long illness. She was loved and respected by all who knew her and will be greatly missed in this vicinity, in which she had lived the greater part of her life. In her early girlhood she joined the M. E. church at Rockland and in later years transferred her membership to the United Evangelical church at Cross Roads, remaining a faithful member till death. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. Wygant, assisted by Rev. Galbreath, pastor of the M. E. church in Rockland, where the services were held.
She was the mother of nine children, two of whom died in early childhood. Left to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother are an aged husband, 92 years of age, and seven children, as follows: Mrs. Jessie McCool and Clayton Montgomery, at home; Edward, of Nickleville; Harry, of Prairie Depot, O.; Cassins, of East Sandy; Mrs. Maude Dritterich, of Salem, and Mrs. Martha Alden, of Erie.
