General Notes: Husband - Andrew Steele

---

He was born, raised, and married in Ireland. Early in 1822 he with his wife and their infant son left for the New World. Crossing the Atlantic they landed on American soil and came out to western Pennsylvania, settling on what was known as the James Dickie farm, in Salem township, Westmoreland County, where they spent four years. From there they moved to the farm known as the Rev. John Cannon farm, where they lived and farmed for eight years, at the end of that time buying a tract of land in the same township which became known as the Steele homestead. There he spent the remainder of his life, engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was a God-fearing man, a conscientious member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, was a hard worker, and temperate in his habits.
