General Notes: Husband - Sebastian Mershimer

At the age of ten years he came with his parents from Germany to America, selling his time to pay his passage. Going into debt at that early age, he labored industriously for ten years to repay the sum advanced him. When seventeen years old, he enlisted as a soldier in the Revolutionary army, and after serving seven years received a deed of three hundred acres of land in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, for his services in the army. Subsequently, in Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania, he learned the trade of a wagon maker, and later carried on the business at Conestoga Valley, remaining there until 1811. Coming then with the Wrightmeyers to Mercer County, he took up land in Slippery Rock Township, and was there engaged in agricultural pursuits, dying on the homestead at the venerable age of ninety years. He improved a large farm, which he later gave to his three sons. [HMC 1909, 920]

He was born at sea, while his parents were on their way from Germany to find a home in America. He followed the trade of wagon-making, and served for seven years in the Revolution, in recognition of which services he was awarded a pension and a soldier's tract of land in the "donation" district.
