He engaged in the wholesale drug business on Lacock street, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, then opened up two coal mines on the Snodgrass estate, and operated these until his death, the coal being shipped on the river to Cincinnati and New Orleans. He had many men in his employ. In addition to this he cultivated his farm and had a general store. He was a Republican in political opinion. He was one of the founders of the Lebanon Presbyterian Church, but later affiliated with the Amity Presbyterian Church, at Dravosburg, and was always an earnest worker in the cause of religion.
