He graduated from Princeton in June, 1860; completed the usual course of legal studies in the office of Judge Watts, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania. But he relinquished his chosen profession from necessities growing out of his father's death and became a practical farmer April 1, 1863.
He was elected to the Constitutional Convention of 1872-73, from the district of Cumberland and Franklin Counties, and served through the entire term of that distinguished body.
