General Notes: Husband - Richard L. Welty

His early education was received in the public schools of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and he graduated from the High School there in 1907. He was of an extremely ambitious temperament and desired to take a course in college for which he should pay himself. With this end in view, accordingly, he took a position with the American Smelting & Refining Company and was sent by them to Mexico, where he took up his abode in the town of Cotorsa. The business of his company being seriously depressed for a time, some of the more recent employees were discharged and among these was Mr. Welty. Accordingly he went to Monterey, Mexico, where he secured employment in another plant of the same company a little later. He held the position of furnace foreman, and while attending to his duties was run down by one of the yard engines and killed. His remains were interred at once, before his family had had an opportunity to order in regard to their disposition, and according to the law of Mexico could not be disinterred for five years. Upon the expiration of this period, however, Mr. Welty had the body brought to the north, and it was interred in St. Clair's Cemetery in Greensburg. Both Mr. and Mrs. Welty went to Mexico to oversee the operation and accompanied the body back.
