General Notes: Husband - John W. Hartzel


He was reared in Butler County, Pennsylvania, attending the common schools there, later becoming an attendant at the night schools and at Peirsol's Academy in Rochester. He served his apprenticeship to the tinning and plumbing trade, then established himself in that business in Rochester, in 1886. He was prominent in local political circles as a Republican, and served as sheriff of the county from 1908 to 1911. He was also a member of the school board of Rochester. He was a stockholder in the Beaver County Telephone Company and the First National Bank of Rochester.
His family attended the Lutheran Church at Rochester, and Mr. Hartzel was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Woodmen of the World, Knights of Pythias and Junior Order of United American Mechanics.

She was a relative of the noted statesman, James G. Blaine.
