General Notes: Husband - Jacob Byerly

He was a soldier in the Revolutionary war, and served principally on the western frontier at Fort Pitt and vicinity. He lived to be ninety-nine years old.
He was buried in Brush Creek graveyard, near Manor Station, Westmoreland County, under a large military monument.

He enlisted in May, 1777, with Lieutenant Kelly in Captain Heath's company in the Thirteenth Virginia Regiment, under the command of Colonel John Gibson. He enlisted from Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, for a period of three years and served the full term. During the whole of his services the regiment had its headquarters at Fort Pitt (now Pittsburgh), and from this place from time to time detachments were sent out against the Indians for the protection of the frontier. He was in the Tuscarawas campaign under McIntosh, in the Squaw campaign under General Hand, and in Broadhead's campaign under General Broadhead.

The record of Jacob Byerly in the Revolution is an interesting one and is described by Mrs. Brinker in her application for membership to the society as follows "Jacob Byerly was born in Fort Bedford, Pennsylvania, in the year 1760, and died in North Huntington township, Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, on the seventh of July, 1858, aged ninety-nine years. Jacob Byerly was a soldier of the Revolution with the Pennsylvania troops and also he enlisted in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, in May, 1777, with Lieutenant Kelly in Captain Heath's Company in the Thirteenth Virginia Regiment, then commanded by Colonel John Gibson for the term of three years. He served in the same regiment for and during the full term of three years under General Hand and General McIntosh and Colonel Brodhead. He was in the Tuscarawas campaign in the Squaw campaign and in Brodhead's campaign, and was granted a pension under act of Congress of June 7, 1832, by certificate No. 25712 for services prior to January 1, 1782."

He and his wife raised a family of twelve children.
