General Notes: Husband - John Younkins

He was educated in the public schools of Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, and his early years were spent on the farm. He then began to learn the oil business, commencing at the very bottom of the ladder, in order to become thoroughly familiar with all its details. He gradually worked his way upward, and in 1876, started as an oil operator in Butler County, at first as part owner of an oil well, and continued in this line of business twenty years, the name of his firm being Younkins Brothers, the other member being his brother Daniel. They operated largely in Bradford and Butler counties, Pennsylvania, and also in West Virginia. In 1900 he was one of the organizers of the Farmers' National Bank, and was its president. He gave his political support to the Democratic party, and served as collector of taxes in Butler borough for three years. He was a trustee of the Methodist Episcopal church, and a member of the local lodge and encampment of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
