General Notes: Husband - Stephen Dod

He was born in Guilford, Connecticut, and in early life moved to New Jersey, first locating in Newark, and finally settling in Mendham.

From the family records and traditions, supported by ecclesiastical and other institutional records and local histories, it is learned that in the year 1636 two brothers, Daniel and Stephen Dod (so the patronymic was then and for some generations thereafter spelled), leaving their ancestral home in England, settled in Branfort, Connecticut. One branch of the family was some time thereafter established in Guilford, in the same state, whence Stephen Dod removed, with other members of the clan, to the neighbor-hood of Newark, New Jersey, where the family name appears among those of the first freeholders of that province.
