She was a graduate of Rocky Grove High School and attended Indiana State Normal School, Indiana, Pennsylvania, a two-year course. She taught school in Cranberry, Sandycreek, Jackson, Sugarcreek, and Pine Grove Townships, Venango County.
She was a member of the Minnie Rebekah Lodge #144, joining on April 30, 1915. She served as the Noble Grand of that organization beginning June 30, 1930. She was also a member of the W. C. T. U.; Nursery Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, #25; the Helping Hand Class of the Seventh Street Church of God where she taught an adult Sunday School Class and for many years sang in the church choir.

Mrs. John E. Knox, Former Teacher in Area Schools, Dies
Mrs. Sara Wertman Knox, 66, wife of John E. Knox, 335 Elk Street, died in the Franklin Hospital at 2:40 a.m. today following a lingering illness. She had been a patient for the past week and died following an operation.
A veteran teacher in the township schools, Mrs. Knox retired several years ago after serving as an instructor in Cranberry, Sugarcreek, Sandycreek, Jackson, and Pine Grove Townships. She taught for 25 years and was employed at Lincoln School, Bully Hill, at the time of her retirement.
She was born Dec. 8, 1886 at Galloway, the daughter of Henry and Alice Beatty Wertman. She lived her entire life in this vicinity and was a graduate of Rocky Grove High School. She attended Indiana State Normal School prior to entering the teaching profession.
She was married to Charles Lloyd Campbell, who died in 1917. A daughter to this marriage, Mrs. Guy Snyder of Franklin, survives. She was united in marriage to John Edwin Knox in 1923. Surviving besides her daughter and husband are a sister, Miss Bertha Wertman, who resides at the Knox residence; and two brothers, Dr. Charles E. Wertman, and Bert B. Wertman, both of Rocky Grove.
Mrs. Knox was a member of Minnie Rebekah Lodge No. 144 and was a past noble grand of that lodge. She also belonged to the Nursery Chapter, No. 25, Order of the Eastern Star and was a W. C. T. U. Member. She was a member of the Seventh Street Church of God and the Helping Hand Class of that church.
The body was removed to the Hoovler Funeral Home and was taken to the residence 335 Elk Street today. Services will be conducted in the Seventh Street Church of God at 2 p.m. Monday and interment will be made in the Franklin Cemetery. Eastern Star funeral rites will be conducted in the Knox residence at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The casket will be conveyed to the church at noon Monday. Rev. John Woods, pastor of the church, will have charge of the services, assisted by Rev. E. E. Starr, former pastor.
